Digital Programmable HVAC Thermostat Why It’s Important

Digital programmable HVAC thermostat setback is its ability to be programmed to adjust the thermostat while you’re
asleep or away from the house. Lowering the thermostat in winter keeps the house colder, but the furnace
doesn’t come on as often, so your energy use and cost are less. In summer, programming the thermostat to
raise the house 1 temperature makes the house warmer but prevents the air-conditioning system from running
when not home which helps to lower your electrical bill. Remember you’re not turning off your system, your
only lowering the temperature for heating and raising the temperature for cooling. The indoor temperature,
then at the end of desired setback time, your normal temperature is heated/cooled to your comfort setting.
You program the setback of your heating/cooling to what is best for you. You can also manually override the
setback for a set period.
During winter, the lower the interior temperature, the slower the heat loss. So the longer your house remains
at the lower temperature, the more energy you save because your house has lost less energy than it would
have at the higher temperature. The same concept applies to raising your thermostat setting in the summer —
a higher interior temperature will slow the flow of heat into your house, saving energy on air conditioning.
*Programmable thermostats are generally not recommended for heat pumps. https://hvacsnyder.com/contact/
